PG Tricentennial Prince George's County
Celebrates 300 years of history 1696-1996

WALK OF HISTORY
BRICK BY BRICK -- LASTING MEMORIES:

One of the goals of the Tricentennial Celebration Committee is to create a set of enduring artifacts to commemorate everyone who participates in Prince George's County life. There is no more lasting outlet of commemoration than one that is "set in stone" -- or, in this case, set in brick.

The Tricentennial Celebration Committee will repave the brick plaza in Upper Marlboro between the County Administration Building and the County Courthouse. However, the replacements in the path will be anything but typical bricks. The newly dubbed "Walk of History" in Upper Marlboro will ultimately be filled with engraved bricks that celebrate the richness and diversity of Prince George's County citizens past and present.

Sections of the walkway will be anchored by centerstones bearing the names and dates of historically significant Prince Georgians. Surrounding each center block will be personalized bricks with the names, messages and/or memorials of other important individuals -- county residents, their families and their friends

Commemorative bricks allow citizens to show pride in their home and their heritage. They can also demonstrate appreciation for loved ones in a way that spoken words could never rival. The personal aspect of these bricks make them a great gift-giving option. Birthdays, graduations, weddings, anniversaries, "firsts" and "bests" are just a few of the events and sentiments worth remembering for years to come. A spot of the Walk of History can make personal memories a lasting part of our shared county history.

A corporate brick buying program is also available; a business or organization can sponsor an entire section and centerstone along the Walk of History. Organizations interested in reserving their space on the pathway can contact the Tricentennial Celebration Office at (301)322-1996.

The cost of individual bricks varies based on the number of lines (up to three lines with 15 characters per line). Funds raised from this project, after the purchase and installation of the bricks, will go toward other celebration projects which will be open to the public throughout the county.

To become a part of our county's heritage and to make your mark along the path of Prince George's County history, call the Tricentennial Celebration Office at (301)322-1996. Your name will go down in history!
