Prince George's County
Celebrates 300
years of history 1696-1996
The final product, a 60-minute documentary, will be a vivid collection of historical facts, county folklore and community traditions. Script writer and researcher Helen Jean Burn will bring to life the 300 years of extensive county history from pre-colonial and early settlement all the way through present day. The piece will even delve into where Prince George's County is headed in the next century and beyond.
Scheduled for completion in April 1996, the full-length version of the film will initially air on channels 22 and 26. Beyond its television debut, the film will be segmented into three 20-minute pieces which will be available to Prince George's County schools. Supplemental teacher guides will accompany the videos to aid interested schools in teaching county history during this important year.
Everyone involved in the production of this substantial film is very excited about the project. Prince George's residents will see and hear what makes their county unique -- its people, communities, houses, religions, celebrations, and education to name just a few aspects. The creators hope this glimpse at county history will increase community pride and add to the already rich heritage.
