Prince George's County
Celebrates 300
years of history 1696-1996
In 1990, a call went out to artists nationwide to create an entirely unique design for the impending county anniversary. Kaskey was selected by the Prince George's County Art in Public Places Committee from the over 140 entries.
Although nationally known, Kaskey has strong ties to Prince George's County where he works in his Brentwood studio. 1996 will be especially busy for the artist as he is also one of three sculptors commissioned by the U.S. Olympic Committee to memorialize the Atlanta games.
The location of the Tricentennial statue was chosen to not only greet visitors to the courthouse, but also to ensure visibility from other vantage points including Route 4, which carries traffic in and out of D.C. Kaskey's sculpture will highlight the year-long Tricentennial Celebration with distinction. It will also remain long after as a permanent reminder of the county's proud heritage, its present achievements and its vision for the future.
