The principal villages of the Indians in
the Chesapeake region were usually
stockaded. The Indians lived not in
tepees, but in small houses covered
with bark or rush mats. This drawing
actually portrays a Susquehannock
village farther north, but Piscataway
villages were quite similar. The palms
and cattle in the drawing are inaccurate
