SUMMARY:June History Chat – Preserving Your History
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Prince George’s County Historical Society for its June 27\, 2022\, Zoom History Chat with Franklin Robinson\, Jr.\, archivist with the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History’s Archives Center\, as he and John Peter Thompson discuss preservation and archiving of your family papers and photographs. Registration information for the Zoom chat follows. \nFranklin A. Robinson\, Jr. is an Archivist with the Archives Center\, National Museum of American History (NMAH)\, Smithsonian Institution. He works with the Archive Center’s processing team on preparing paper and film collections for long term preservation and researcher use. He has processed the papers of songwriter Harry Warren\, comic Groucho Marx\, and Hollywood director George Sidney. He has processed collections dealing with agriculture\, LGBTQ\, popular culture\, and the performing arts. He has curated Archives Center exhibits focusing on the Stonewall 40th Anniversary\, HIV and AIDS\, Chocolate\, and many other topics. He has authored many Archives Center finding aids. He has also authored monographs and books on local Maryland history. He contributed a chapter to Jessica Lacher-Feldman’s book\, Exhibits in Archives and Special Collections Libraries and has an article published in the summer 2014 issue of the journal QED. His latest book\, Faith & Tobacco was published in 2015 by Anchovy Hill Press. He is the current chair of the Charles County Historic Preservation Commission. He is the recipient of The Maryland Historical Trust’s Preservation Service Award. He was appointed to the board of the Maryland Historical Trust by Governor Hogan in 2016 and currently serves as vice-chair. He is a board member of the Maryland Historic Districts Commission and a board member of the National Episcopal Historians and Archivists. He holds a BFA from the Catholic University of America and an MA from American University. He is a member of the Society of American Archivists and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference. He is also a professional actor\, produced playwright\, and playwriting teacher.
