Calvert's Creation: History and Development of the University of Maryland at College Park

Calvert's Creation Logo "Calvert's Creation" chronicles the 140-year history of the University of Maryland at College Park (UMCP), from its establishment as the Maryland Agricultural College in 1856 to the present time. The exhibit focuses on the founding of the college, the campus' physical facilities, student life, famous alumni, significant faculty and staff, and intercollegiate athletics. Also included are various development plans, freshmen beanies, photographs of early sports teams, pictures of the university's solar car, memories of campus festivities like class tug-of-wars and campus May Day celebrations, as well as examples of many of the initiatives currently underway to improve instruction. research, and the quality of campus life.

The University Archives has also been fortunate to obtain on loan for this event a portrait of Maryland Agricultural College founder Charles Benedict Calvert and the architectural model for the Maryland Center for the Performing Arts, scheduled for completion in 1999.
