The Hyattsville Branch Independent Film Series – sponsored by the Creative Edge Studio and the Friends of the Hyattsville Library – is in its fifth year, highlighting films that expand our minds and hearts, and inspire community conversation.

Rosenwald, by Aviva Kempner, is the story of Jewish philanthropist Julius Rosenwald, who partnered with African American educator, Booker T. Washington, to build 5,400 Southern schools in African American communities in the early part of the 20th century. There are 27 schools in Prince George’s County that received funds from the Rosenwald fund.

Aviva Kempner, the writer and director of the film – will be present to lead the discussion after the screening.  Refreshments will be served.
