Old Greenbelt Theatre
is an iconic building in Greenbelt, MD, a federally planned New Deal-era community. It was completed in 1938 and remodeled in 2014-2015. The core of Old Greenbelt was declared a National Historic District in 1997, with the Theatre a prominent reminder of a bygone era of cinema as well as a living institution whose values of community service and collective responsibility continue to be pertinent and valuable in present day Greenbelt.

The Theatre is both a cultural and social hub and an economic and artistic driver through a vibrant programming schedule. This model represents and endorses the ideals of Greenbelt’s pioneer citizens, which in many ways are more modern today than ever. (Illustration by Kent R. Abraham)
